Life and Death Is There any Afterlife Souls

Life and Death Life and Death is a never ending topic for discussion. Everybody have their own views and philosophies, but those views dont change the meaning of life and death. It only shows how that particular person thinks about it. Views of every second person will be different from the first. Difference might be minor but there will be. What is Life ? Is life just taking birth, growing up with your parents, getting married and watching you son / daughter and then their son/ daughter. Then finally saying goodbye to all. This is very common thinking about life. But if you think in that way, it means you are living a very normal life with no fun at all and waiting for death. Some people think tat life is time to have fun. They like to travel, party, drink, eat and say that this is life. They also know that death is certain but they want to enjoy every moment of it. Other people think that these people are wasting their money for no reason. But if you ask them they will say that they ...

Is a Belly Bad

Image
A protruding midsection can mean many different things. It can be obesity, starvation/kwashiorkor or sarcopenia. It can mean there is a layer of fat outside, sagging organs poorly supported by weak abdominal muscles or fat surrounding the organs and stretching the muscles outward. Alternatively having the same “lean” profile at 60 as at 16 could be a sign of a decline of muscle and an increase in fat surrounding organs. You can always have a porthole put in to see what is going on, or you can check the calendar and your C-reactive protein level. If you are over fifty and your doctor has told you that your CRP, a measure of inflammation, is starting to creep up, then you are starting to suffer from age-related loss of muscle, sarcopenia. That is, you have begun to replace your muscle mass with fat, and the fat is producing inflammatory signal molecules, cytokines, that are the same as those produced by your immune system cells in response to an infection. Most of the symptoms we ass...

To Juice or Not to Juice That is the Question

Image
I was recently asked at a presentation what my thoughts were on juicing. Moreover, new years is quickly approaching and with it come resolutions, which many will be losing weight, especially after indulging during the holidays. Therefore, I decided to write about whether to juice or not to juice. People juice for several reasons; whether its "detox", weight loss, staying healthy or "rebooting", but is it appropriate?! Many companies talk about raving health benefits, however, hardly any of these claims can be supported by scientific evidence.    The best way to do help you decide if to juice or not is by just dividing it to pros and cons: Pros Good way to get more fruits and vegetables in the diet, especially if you are picky or not a big vegetable and fruit eater High in antioxidants as well as vitamins and minerals Feels "lighter" since you do not chew anything or have "bulky" food in your stomach Could help with weight loss   Cons Very pricey....

You Can Lose Weight Without Dieting Though Your Bod Is Probably Pretty Great As It Is

Image
Is it possible to get healthy or lose weight without dieting? We’re firmly in the pro-healthy-living but anti-diet camp over here, so if there’s a way to drop unhealthy extra pounds (stress on unhealthy — your bod is probably pretty great as it is) or get healthy without resorting to diets, I’m all ears. The word “diet” has been getting a bad reputation the past few years, and for good reason: Research shows that crash diets, generally defined as eating under 1200 calories a day, are not successful in the long run, and in fact may be detrimental to your health. So how to get healthy? Huge changes to an unhealthy lifestyle can be a daunting prospect, making it difficult to start losing excess weight. Fortunately, Quartz reports that new research from the Food and Brand Lab at Cornell University shows that even just one small lifestyle change can trigger a chain reaction of sorts — small changes lead to small amounts of weight loss, which leads to other small changes, with an overall eff...

High Fructose Consumption Inflammation Up LDL HDL Ratio Down Is That Good or Bad For Your Heart

Image
Remember: If anything fructose from beverages (including juices), yet not fructose from whole fruit is a problem. In fact eating whole fruits will decrease your blood lipids and high sensitivity C reactive protein (hs-CRP) inflammation markers. Fructose is bad for you, right? Right. According to the latest study from the University of Newcastle , the consumption of only one drink containing containing 50 g of either fructose or glucose or sucrose dissolved in water will have detrimental effects on the #1 indicator of whole body inflammation, which is high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP). Much to the researchers surprise, though, the same amount of fructose had significant beneficial effects on the plasma lipid levels of the healthy male and female adults (n = 14) between the ages of 18-60 years who were recruited by advertisement and underwent study procedures at the Nutraceuticals Research Group Clinic rooms at the University of Newcastle in Australia. If Insulin Sensitivity is Key Whats the Key to Insulin Sensi tivity Artemisia Dracunculus Lixisenatide Calcium Bi carbonated Water True Promoters of Insulin Sensitivity

Insulin sensitivity is a necessary pre- requisite for much more than a profane set of sixpack abs. You will probably have realized that the number of short-news like articles on the SuppVersity has been increasing as of late. The reasons for that are twofold: For one, its the fact that it pisses me off (sorry, but thats how it is) that all the interesting stuff I post on the SuppVersity Facebook Page disappears into an oblivion of which I can only hope that it is not Mark Zuckerbergs *** Secondly, I am currently working my regular job, doing some additional University stuff and working on another nutrition and exercise science related project and dont have the time to do the extensive research thats necessary to produce articles like part II of the "perfect frying oil" article, you may (rightly) already be waiting for. In other words: If you dont want me to switch to a twice or thrice (max) a week schedule, you will have to live with less in-depth articles like this - sorry!...

Protein Power Study Suggests 40 is Where True Magic Happens Plus If Protein is King Whey is the Emperor

Its not just about more protein its about significantly more protein and - possibly - also about whey! Just to make sure: Yes, I know the study I am about to discuss in todays SuppVersity article is a rodent study - a rodent study by researchers from the University College Cork and the University College Dublin (Mc Allan. 2014).  And yes, I know that you aint no fury little mouse or rat... ... but I do also know that the beneficial metabolic effects of high protein intakes appear to be even more, not less pronounced in human beings and will thus not mention 500x that the assumption that wed see similar benefits in men and women would obviously require experimental confirmation... alright? Now that we are clear, dear non-dams and non-bucks... ... you are probably already drooling at the sought of reading yet another "high protein is good for you" study. Dont worry I am not going keep you on the tenderhooks longer than absolutely necessary. What is necessary, though is a ver...

Is Slow and Steady the Best Weight Loss Tactic

Image
An Australian study throws doubt on the notion that a more gradual approach to weight loss is always the most effective route to take. The study also found that whether you opt for a "crash" diet or something a bit slower, the rate at which you shed excess pounds has no bearing on whether or not those pounds will come back. The findings are published Oct. 15 in  The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology . "Across the world, guidelines recommend gradual weight loss for the treatment of obesity, reflecting the widely held belief that fast weight loss is more quickly regained," study lead author Katrina Purcell, a dietician at the University of Melbourne in Australia, said in a journal news release. However, the new study shows that "achieving a weight loss target of 12.5 percent is more likely, and drop-out is lower, if losing weight is done quickly," Purcell said. Current guidelines recommend slow and steady weight loss in the belief that it is more likely th...

A Weight Loss Belief Is Tested

Image
Many people believe that weight lost quickly is quickly regained, and there are some studies that suggest this may be true. But a new randomized trial has found no long-term difference in weight regain among people who lost pounds slowly and those who did so quickly. Australian researchers randomly assigned 200 obese people to one of two groups. The first followed a severely calorie-restricted diet for 12 weeks, the second a moderately restricted diet over 36 weeks. The study is online in Lancet  Diabetes   & Endocrinology. The researchers then placed all those who lost at least 12.5 percent of their weight — 51 of the gradual weight losers and 76 of the rapid losers — on a weight maintenance diet. After three years on the maintenance diet, there was no significant difference in the amounts of weight regained: 71.2 percent was regained on average by the gradual losers, versus 70.5 percent by the rapid losers. The senior author, Dr. Joseph Proietto, a professor of medi...

The no sugar diet is it good for you

Image
A no-sugar diet isnt as simple as cutting out all cakes and sweets. It means eliminating anything that contains sugar, which is almost all processed foods in our supermarkets YES - David Gillespie Author of Sweet Poison: Why Sugar Makes Us Fat (Penguin) People say, “I don’t eat much sugar”, but most of them eat massive amounts without realising. The average person consumes 40 teaspoons per day. If you look at processed foods, there’s sugar in everything. Barbecue sauce is about 55 per cent sugar, fat-free mayonnaise is 30 per cent, yoghurt can contain more sugar than ice-cream.  It’s addictive so the more that’s added, the more we consume. A particular problem is fructose, which has been found to affect our appetite controls, making us eat more than we need. The result isobesity, non-alcoholic liver disease and type 2 diabetes. In 1981, Australia had 200,000 cases of type 2; now we have about 1.4 million. It’s out of control.  I’d tried endless diets b...
