Whats Your Body Telling You

Image
Im still processing and digesting the wealth of information I received from participating in Kevin Giannis remarkable Rawkathon event. Listening to interviews with 14 world-renowned health experts in seven days is a lot to absorb. One of the folks who particularly resonated with me was raw food coach Karen Knowler from the UK. She spoke about what it means to truly live a healthy balanced life, how to safely transition to a raw foods diet, and put an end to emotional eating. Karens energy and enthusiasm is contagious and by the time she was through speaking, I was vibrating. This will often happen to me when I hear Truth. Ever have that experience, where deep inside you feel an inner "Yes!" after you hear or read something? Ironically, Karen shared a story on the Rawkathon about a time when her own body informed her that she had just made a very important decision. As a follow-up, Karen has written a wonderful article that further illustrates her increased perception and in...

Did You Know That Cherries Can Help Cure Gout Natural Remedies For Gout

Image
What is Gout? Gout is an condition that results from having too much uric acid in the blood. Its actually a form of arthritis. When the uric acid crystallizes in the joints, it can cause severe pain, usually in the big toe. People who have gout are often males (90% are men) who eat and drink too much and are overweight but this is not always the case. Several years ago I was shocked to find that the excruciating pain in my husbands toe was diagnosed as gout. At 49 years old, trim and eating a balance "plant centric" diet, he did not exactly fit the profile of someone with gout. But he had it, none the less. We went into "overdrive" trying to find a natural way to cure this painful condition. How do you get Gout? Uric acid build up is a result of eating certain "purine" rich foods and your bodys inability to adequately remove the uric acid. Some of the foods high in purines include: Meat: Beef, pork, lamb, meat-based gravies, poultry and organ meats. Seafoo...

Is it possible to get healthy or lose weight without dieting? We’re firmly in the pro-healthy-living but anti-diet camp over here, so if there’s a way to drop unhealthy extra pounds (stress on unhealthy — your bod is probably pretty great as it is) or get healthy without resorting to diets, I’m all ears. The word “diet” has been getting a bad reputation the past few years, and for good reason: Research shows that crash diets, generally defined as eating under 1200 calories a day, are not successful in the long run, and in fact may be detrimental to your health. So how to get healthy? Huge changes to an unhealthy lifestyle can be a daunting prospect, making it difficult to start losing excess weight. Fortunately, Quartz reports that new research from the Food and Brand Lab at Cornell University shows that even just one small lifestyle change can trigger a chain reaction of sorts — small changes lead to small amounts of weight loss, which leads to other small changes, with an overall eff...

So it was only a matter of time before it got involved in managing your waistline. Mobile weight-loss interventions, such as text-message reminders, can help people lose significantly more weight than they would without cellphone support, according to a new study presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions. Researchers analyzed the results from 14 different studies on weight-loss programs involving more than 1,300 subjects. They found that, on average, people lost about 3.2 extra pounds when their program involved a mobile component. The studies used mobile technology in a variety of ways. We all know water is good for us.  It helps maintain weight, it’s great for our skin, and it’s great for pretty much every organ in our bodies.  Sometimes though it is so hard to get enough of the good ol’ H2O! You need to aim to consume half your body weight in ounces, so if you weigh 130 pounds you should aim to drink about 65 ounces a day, which can be rough.  Try these tips to help you guzzle more of the good stuff every day!   1. Buy that cute water bottle or straw cup you have been eyeing. If you have water with you, you will drink more.  I keep a water bottle in my purse, currently I love the Contigo straw bottles, and I also pack a straw cup as well.  I usually leave my Starbuck’s straw cup in my car and drink as I run errands.  If I am going to the mall I put my trusty cup in the cup holder of my stroller and aim to finish it before I finish my shopping.  It’s fast and easy to just drink as we walk around.   Keeping the wat...

The no sugar diet is it good for you

Image
A no-sugar diet isnt as simple as cutting out all cakes and sweets. It means eliminating anything that contains sugar, which is almost all processed foods in our supermarkets YES - David Gillespie Author of Sweet Poison: Why Sugar Makes Us Fat (Penguin) People say, “I don’t eat much sugar”, but most of them eat massive amounts without realising. The average person consumes 40 teaspoons per day. If you look at processed foods, there’s sugar in everything. Barbecue sauce is about 55 per cent sugar, fat-free mayonnaise is 30 per cent, yoghurt can contain more sugar than ice-cream.  It’s addictive so the more that’s added, the more we consume. A particular problem is fructose, which has been found to affect our appetite controls, making us eat more than we need. The result isobesity, non-alcoholic liver disease and type 2 diabetes. In 1981, Australia had 200,000 cases of type 2; now we have about 1.4 million. It’s out of control.  I’d tried endless diets b...
