Cuckoo For Coconut Water Giveaway

Im a big fan of coconut water. Ill often use it in place of filtered water in my green smoothies. I like to add it to blended soups and raw desserts. And theres nothing that quenches my thirst and rehydrates me more quickly after a long hike, run or yoga class. But despite my great sense of adventure, Im just not a machete-wielding kinda gal. And a machete, or large cleaver, is what it takes to hack through the hard shell of a green coconut and lay claim to the precious water within. Enter ZICO Pure Coconut Water ZICO ( Zee-ko ) is made in Brazil from young (sometimes called green) coconuts, valued for the health benefits of the great tasting water inside. At this stage of its development, the coconut contains virtually no meat and is filled with water thats loaded with electrolytes and more potassium than a banana. If left to mature, this water becomes the meat and milk of a coconut. I have so many folks write and ask me the difference between the coconut milk they see in their grocer...

Water In Your Body

I talk a lot about hydration on this blog. I thought it would be a good idea to talk about everything water does for us in our body, besides just cooling us off through sweat. Proper hydration is important to perform best at your sport, but it does so much more! Water helps control our internal body temperature through sweating. Athletes know all about that!  It is the water in our blood that carries nutrients (glucose, oxygen, and fats) to the muscles and also removes the by-products from metabolism. Water also lubricates our joints and provides cushion to our organs.  Drinking enough water will also help prevent  constipation .  So as you can see, water has many roles in our body. As an athlete, you are at a greater risk for dehydra...

We all know water is good for us.  It helps maintain weight, it’s great for our skin, and it’s great for pretty much every organ in our bodies.  Sometimes though it is so hard to get enough of the good ol’ H2O! You need to aim to consume half your body weight in ounces, so if you weigh 130 pounds you should aim to drink about 65 ounces a day, which can be rough.  Try these tips to help you guzzle more of the good stuff every day!   1. Buy that cute water bottle or straw cup you have been eyeing. If you have water with you, you will drink more.  I keep a water bottle in my purse, currently I love the Contigo straw bottles, and I also pack a straw cup as well.  I usually leave my Starbuck’s straw cup in my car and drink as I run errands.  If I am going to the mall I put my trusty cup in the cup holder of my stroller and aim to finish it before I finish my shopping.  It’s fast and easy to just drink as we walk around.   Keeping the wat...

Insulin sensitivity is a necessary pre- requisite for much more than a profane set of sixpack abs. You will probably have realized that the number of short-news like articles on the SuppVersity has been increasing as of late. The reasons for that are twofold: For one, its the fact that it pisses me off (sorry, but thats how it is) that all the interesting stuff I post on the SuppVersity Facebook Page disappears into an oblivion of which I can only hope that it is not Mark Zuckerbergs *** Secondly, I am currently working my regular job, doing some additional University stuff and working on another nutrition and exercise science related project and dont have the time to do the extensive research thats necessary to produce articles like part II of the "perfect frying oil" article, you may (rightly) already be waiting for. In other words: If you dont want me to switch to a twice or thrice (max) a week schedule, you will have to live with less in-depth articles like this - sorry!...
