Healthy Living Raw Food Cleanse

I hope you enjoyed your holidays and have embraced the New Year and New Decade with gusto. Thus far, my 2010 has been spent shoveling snow. Lots of snow. Too much snow. The white stuff began flying on New Years Day and basically hasnt stopped. It now reaches the window sills on my little cottage. Of course, my Siberian husky Maya thinks she has died and gone to heaven. Im getting a heck of a cardio workout, several times a day. In addition to shoveling, Maya makes certain Im out hiking. I let her forge the way, cutting a trail through the woods. And let me tell you, traipsing through deep snow really gets your blood pumping. Im tempted to pop on a pair of skis and let her pull me, but then I flash back on our rollerblading adventures of summer and decide maybe its not such a good idea after all. Ive also been juicing up a storm with the sexy new Hurom Slow Juicer that Santa brought me. In fact, Ive consumed virtually nothing but fresh juices for the past five days. I really hadnt pla...

Antibiotics Gut Flora Food Intolerance and Disease

Image
Cattle Are Finished by Selective Killing of Gut Flora.  The Sickened Animals Store Fat that Grills Great.  People Get Metabolic Syndrome. The likening of modern humans to potatoes sacked out on a couch is misleading.  The obesity epidemic linked to diets of processed foods more closely resembles the stumbling progression of cattle to abattoir.  Antibiotics and diet systematically lead in both feedlot and food court to gut dysbiosis, immune system failure, hormone disruption, rampant fat accumulation, physical inactivity, depression and the modern suite of chronic diseases.  Healthcare costs escalate, but vet bills, in contrast, are forestalled by a captive bolt pistol. Background Observations Antibiotics kill bacteria and not humans, because the bacteria have different machinery for making proteins, nucleic acids and cell walls. Antibiotics kill bacterial pathogens and not viruses or fungi. Antibiotics kill helpful bacteria in the gut (gut flora) even more ...

Whats Really Behind Your Food Cravings

Image
Ive written before about Changing My Relationship With Food and how the process was key in my recovering from morbid obesity. One of the things I discovered along the way was that food cravings are physical . Physical cravings are our cells crying for the nutrients they need. Sadly, we often respond to this urge by eating highly processed and refined foods which only promote further malnourishment. Yup, that was me. Tipping the scales at over 300 pounds, yet starving. I used to think the four food groups were Starbucks, chocolate, cheeseburgers and French fries. While I was transitioning from the Standard American Diet of packaged and processed foods to a diet high in raw, living foods, I went through some periods of strong cravings. {To get a sense of what my transition looked like, you can read A Day In The Life} Early on, my body craved wild-caught Alaskan salmon daily. After several months of detoxifying my system of food additives and preservatives, I couldnt get enough beets. Mor...

Apples Top The List For Most PesticidesDirty Dozen And Clean Fifteen For 2014Are There Pesticides In Your Babys Food

Image
Once again apples top the list as having the most pesticide residue in EWGs annual "Dirty Dozen" list. Follow Foods For Long Life on Facebook and Pinterest. Thanks EWG For the last ten years, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has taken data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on pesticide residue and compiled a list of the most and least contaminated fruits and vegetables. I use this list to determine which produce should be purchased as organic and which conventionally grown produce is safe to eat. For example, I always buy organic apples, which often top the "Dirty Dozen" list and I rarely spend the extra money for avocados that top the "Clean Fifteen." The Dirty Dozen Plus The Dirty Dozen contain high concentrations of pesticides as well as a number of different pesticides. For example: * Every sample of imported nectarines and 99% of apple samples had pesticide residue. * Potatoes had more pesticides by weight than any other food. * A single ...

New Years Resolution 1 Eat More Raw Food How Raw Foods Can Alter Bad Genes

Image
Raw fruits, berries and vegetables can mitigate bad genes Follow Foods For Long Life on FACEBOOK ! The Power of Food      One of my strongest beliefs about food appears in my quote on the right hand side of this page.      " Health, excellent or ill, is passed to our children not just through our genes but primarily through our recipes".      People often live in fear of getting a disease that their parents have. I know so many people who had one or more parents die from a heart attack, or some other disease, and they are unconsciously waiting for the same thing to happen to them. You dont have to do that. You can take control of your destiny and fight back with a healthful diet.       Most of the illnesses you fear that your parents are passing to you (and the ones their parents gave to them) were passed in the form of dietary traditions. If you ever get a heart attack, it could be from Moms 3 meat stromboli recipe that ...
