How to Make CrockPot Crayons

Image
Day 176. Whats the best thing to do with old, broken crayons? Recycle them! This is a great rainy (or overly hot) day project, that is both fun and useful. The Ingredients. --old crayons --muffin tin or candy mold. I was ecstatic to find a 6-hole, throw-away muffin tin at the grocery store. I really want to try and make cupcakes. In order for it to fit in my 6qt oval Smart-Pot, I needed to trim the edge a little with some scissors, but afterward I did that, it fit nicely into the crockpot . My friends have candy molds that fit in their crock perfectly, and next time Im at the craft store Im going to look for them. --kid helpers. The Directions. Sort the crayons into color families, and peel the wrappers off. It helps to soak the crayons in some warm water before peeling. Break the crayons into small pieces, and load into the candy mold or muffin tin. Its best to mound the crayons up a bit; they will melt and shrink down. Put the tin or mold into the crock, cover, and turn o...

The Smells Of The Season

Image
One of the things I love most about this time of year are the smells. I can still remember the aroma that filled the house after Mom had spent the day baking holiday goodies. Warm and wonderful is how it made me feel, whether I was an eight-year-old coming in from sledding, or an eighteen-year-old coming home for winter break. Ive discovered you can re-create the same delicious scents by putting a raw spin on some traditional holiday favorites. Going to a holiday party this weekend, or hosting one of your own? These simple recipes are sure to please the palette as well as the olfactory receptors. Merry merry! Monday thru Friday Slow Cooker Meal Plan

Image
(meatless) Monday: Pesto Lasagna Tuesday: Super Simple Cranberry Roast Wednesday: Traditional Minestrone Soup Thursday: General Tsos Chicken Friday: Puffy Pizza Casserole --->  For the complete meal plan and coordinating grocery list, please see my meal plan page.   The Verdict: Our week runs SO MUCH MORE SMOOTHLY when I take the time to write out a menu and grocery shop for all of the food either on the weekend or the week before. It does take a bit of planning, I know, but I do think youll find that the hectic meal-making hours will be easier if the groceries are already in the house.  The slow cooker already forces you to meal plan, so just by using it (somewhat) regularly youre already way ahead!! have a great week!

Trypophobia Test Causes Cure and Treatment

Image
Trypophobia Trypophobia is a relatively new term in medical science. It came into existence in year 2005. Trypo is a greek term (just like other scientific words), which means "drilling or boring holes". A research by Arnold Wilkins and Geoff Cole described it as a mental disorder. Most of the doctors dont believe that there is any such disease. They believe  Trypophobia  is just a fear from beehives and antholes which result in people assuming that such structures are present on their skin. Research is still going on to find if  Trypophobia is a real disease or not. Trypophobia Test Some people often search for "Trypophobia Test" on google to find if there is any test available to diagnose Trypophobia disease. As Trypophobia is not a recognized mental disorder by psychologists Trypophobia Causes Trypophobia is fear of clustered holes. Which means if you are over fearful of clustered holes then there are chances that at some time you might feel that you are suffer...

How to get balanced meal in your diet

Image
Menu planning: start with vegetables and fruits When you think about your future meal menus, integrate systematically: The equivalent of a fruit at breakfast: fresh fruit or fruit juice with no added sugar. A vegetable with two main meals: lunch AND dinner. Every day at lunch and / or dinner: a minimum rawness. Every day at lunch and / or dinner: a fruit dessert or other dessert containing fruits, at least. In a way, it would reverse our process. We reason most often from protein (meat, fish, eggs): "Tonight we eat chicken," and thus we neglect the vegetables. It would be best to start with the choice of vegetables: "Tonight, we eat carrots" and then think about coaching in order to get a balanced meal. Frequent purchases of fruits and vegetables on the market The first rule is to buy fruits and vegetables in season. Thus, they are fresh, cheaper and locally sourced. The second rule is to focus on market purchases. Ideally at least twice a week to avoid long store v...

Day 222. recipe updated in Make it Fast, Cook it Slow to: 2 cups enchilada sauce, and to layer the tortillas with the filling. mmm! Its the two hundred and twenty-second day of the year, the day after 8/8/8. That means today is good luck, too. Ive just decided. Way back on the 9th day of the year, I threw together an enchilada casserole that was really good, and Ive been meaning to do regular enchiladas ever since. We had some leftover brisket , so I used that as the filling---but you could use rotisserie chicken meat, PORK , or leave it vegetarian. Enchiladas are very versatile. The Ingredients. --1 can (14.5 oz) creamed corn --1 cup shredded already-cooked meat --1 cup baby spinach leaves --1/4 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro leaves --2 T chopped sliced jalapenos --1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (I used a packaged Mexican blend) --1 can (28 oz) green enchilada sauce --2/3 cup sour cream --corn tortillas --more shredded cheese The Directions. Moroccan Lentil Soup CrockPot Recipe

Image
Day 262. I found this lentil soup recipe earlier in the year, and bookmarked it to try. Yesterday I woke to a foggy sky, wet grass, and I contemplated turning on the heater. Soup season has officially begun. I got the funniest email back in July from Kathy, who wanted me to cook with lentils. She forwarded this great article from the Seattle Times about how healthy and packed-full of protein lentils are. Theyre cheap, too. Im embarrassed to admit that I have never cooked or even bought lentils before the other day. When I emailed Kathy about not even knowing where to find them in the grocery store, she wrote back: Stephanie…MUST I come THERE and accompany you to the grocery store?? :-) (How I would LOVE that! Any excuse to escape up-coming move.) You should be able to find “some” lentils on the same shelf as rice – look to the BOTTOM shelf, of course, as they are not particularly popular in this country. As the writer of the article I sent you clarifies, different types of le...
